Top Prize Karaoke Series (hereafter referred to as “The Contest”) is a karaoke singing contest during the 2019 season, open to all singers who meet eligibility criteria. The Contest shall consist of qualifying events at various locations throughout Ontario, followed by three regional championship events and a final three events that will be held at a date and location TBA.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To participate in The Contest, a contestant must meet ALL of the following criteria:
Resident of Canada
Age 19 or older at the time of the qualifying event in which they are trying to win entry into the regional championship
Not an employee or representative of Top Prize Karaoke or D# Sports and Entertainment
Has not previously won entry into the regional championship through another qualifying event
*** PLEASE NOTE: ANY HOST LOCATION OF A QUALIFYING EVENT RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ENTRY TO ANY PERSON, EVEN IF THEY MEET THESE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS. ***
QUALIFYING EVENTS
Qualifying events are held at various host locations throughout Ontario.
Any person meeting eligibility requirements may enter any qualifying event at any location.
There is no limit to the number of qualifying events that can be entered, but each entry must be accompanied by a separate entry fee.
A $25 entry fee should be submitted to Top Prize Karaoke at least 10 days prior to the advertised start time of the qualifying event in order to be processed and accepted. Registration can be paid through https://topprizekaraoke.com/ticket-shop/ by purchasing a “Contestant” ticket to the qualifying event.
A maximum of 20 singers may be entered into any single qualifying event. Once the maximum number of entries is reached, entries will be closed and no further entries will be accepted.
The winner of each qualifying event will gain entry into the regional championship. One wild card entrant will also be chosen to advance to the regional championship. A prize will be awarded to the winner of each qualifying event.
Contestants will sing one or more songs at the qualifying event. After round one, the top 8 singers will advance to round two. After round two, the top three singers will advance to round three.
There will be three judges at each qualifying event. There will also be audience voting for each round. Each audience member will vote for their top three singers. Audience voting will count as the “fourth judge”. For each of the three judges, singers will be ranked by their total scores from 1-20, with the top singer receiving 20 points for that judge, down to one point for the last place singer. The same will be done for the “fourth judge” (the audience vote). The total score out of 80 will determine which singers advance, and ultimately, which singers win.
*** NOTE – IF THERE ARE FEWER THAN 20 SINGERS REGISTERED FOR A QUALIFYING EVENT, THE NUMBER OF POINTS AVAILABLE PER JUDGE WILL BE LOWERED ACCORDINGLY. FOR EXAMPLE, IF THERE ARE 14 SINGERS REGISTERED, THEN THE TOP SINGER FOR EACH JUDGE WILL RECEIVE 14 POINTS, FOR A POSSIBLE TOTAL SCORE OF 56. ***
REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
For every ten qualifying events, there will be one regional championship event. Regional championship dates and locations TBA.
All winners of qualifying events, including the wild card winners, will participate in the regional championship.
Regional championship events will work exactly the same as the qualifying events; 20 singers will be reduced to 8, then 8 to 3, and then the final three will compete to declare a winner. Judging and audience voting will remain the same as well.
The three regional championship winners will win the right to compete in the final-three.
FINAL-THREE
The final-three event will be held at a date and location TBA.
All regional championship winners will compete in the final-three event.
Each of these contestants will sing two songs.
For each of the two rounds of singing, the scores from each judge will be ranked as in the previous rounds, with a singer receiving 15 points for first place, 10 for second place, and 5 for third. The audience voting will also be ranked and scored. The total possible score for each singer in each round is 60.
The final score will be determined by adding together their previous two rounds of scores, for a possible 120 total points.
The first, second, and third place winners will then be awarded their final prizes.
JUDGING CRITERIA
For every song in the qualifying events, regional championship, and finals, judges will award up to 20 points in each of the following five categories:
Song Selection
Vocal Ability
Stage Presence
Crowd Response
Song Difficulty
*** PLEASE NOTE THAT AUDIENCE VOTING IS NOT SUBJECT TO ANY CRITERIA. ***
*** THE DECISIONS OF JUDGES WILL BE DEEMED FINAL AT ALL STAGES OF THE CONTEST, AND THERE WILL BE A ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY ON COMPLAINTS ABOUT JUDGING DECISIONS. ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT JUDGING DECISIONS WILL RESULT IN A WARNING ON THE FIRST OFFENSE, AND A BAN FROM ALL FURTHER PARTICIPATION IN THE CONTEST ON A SECOND OFFENSE. ***
